Soft, lightweight woven fabric made from 70% cotton (BCI) and 30% linen from the MERCHANT & MILLS

The subtle check pattern was woven from purple, dark beige and olive green tones. The checks are 1.5 x 1.5 cm in size. A versatile fabric, light and airy. The front and back of the fabric are identical, it can be used on both sides. This high quality fabric is excellent for summer clothing such as dresses, blouses, shirts, wide pants and skirts because of its high air permeability.

Origin of the fibers: the linen fibers come from Eastern European cultivation, the cotton comes from Africa (BCI = Better Cotton Initiative).

Country of production: Turkey

Certification: Oeko Tex Standard 100

Care instructions:The fabric has already been pre-washed by the manufacturer. However, we still recommend machine washing this fabric at 30 or 40 degrees with a mild detergent before sewing to avoid shrinkage later.

Fabrics with linen fibers need a lot of water to wash - please do not wash in the water-saving program and put max. half the load in the washing machine - linen wants to "float". Larger pieces such as curtains or bedding should be soaked in the machine before washing. Please spin only lightly (low speeds) and iron while still slightly damp.

Shrinkage values: approx. 3% in length and approx. 3% in width.

Good life cycle assessment of linen fibers:

Flax is a hardy crop that grows well in northern Europe. It requires little or no fertilizer and little additional water due to the local climate. It also thrives in poor soils. One hectare of flax can retain 3.7 tons of CO2. Every part of the flax plant can be used: what is not used to make linen can be used to make linseed oil, paper, livestock feed or even soap.
Linen is a sustainable fiber. It is -without the content of elastane- completely biodegradable and recyclable.

Special properties of linen:

  • ernormally high tensile strength (up to 3x as high as cotton),
  • thus particularly durable,
  • excellent moisture management (absorbs sweat well and also releases it easily),
  • cooling effect in summer,
  • especially skin-friendly (lowest allergic potential among all textile fibers)
  • Sustainable climate and soil friendly:
  • Cultivation in crop rotation on the field (prerequisite for growth),
  • No nitrogen fertilization, since flax is the only crop that does not tolerate nitrogen.
  • biodegradable
