Linen woven fabric made from 100% linen (EU) by MERCHANT & MILLS

Color: dark blue

Medium weight linen fabric with check weave pattern. The front and back of the linen fabric are identical, it can be processed on both sides. This high quality linen fabric is excellent for summer clothes like dresses, blouses, shirts, wide pants and skirts because of its high air permeability.

European origin: the linen fibers come from Eastern European cultivation.

Country of production: This linen is produced in small batches in Eastern Europe, where spinning and weaving of linen fabrics has a long tradition.

The linen fabric has been washed and milled to make it softer. This linen is yarn dyed, which means the yarns are dyed with AZO free colors before weaving.

Linen care instructions:

We recommend machine washing this fabric at 30 or 40 degrees with a mild detergent before sewing. Do not put in the dryer, shake out and dry flat. Linen always gets a little "stiff" after washing, but when worn/used the fibers "relax" again and become softer.

Linen fabrics need a lot of water to wash - please do not wash in the water-saving program and put max. half the load in the washing machine - linen wants to "float". Larger pieces such as curtains or bedding should be soaked in the machine before washing. Please only spin gently (low speeds) and iron while still slightly damp.

Shrinkage values: approx. 2% in length and approx. 2% in width.

Good eco-balance:

Flax is a hardy crop that grows well in northern Europe. It requires little or no fertilizer and little additional water due to the local climate. It also thrives in poor soils. One hectare of flax can retain 3.7 tons of CO2. Every part of the flax plant can be used: what is not used to make linen can be used to make linseed oil, paper, livestock feed or even soap.
Linen is a sustainable fiber. It is -without the content of elastane- completely biodegradable and recyclable.

Special properties of linen:

  • ernormally high tensile strength (up to 3x as high as cotton),
  • thus particularly durable,
  • excellent moisture management (absorbs sweat well and also releases it easily),
  • cooling effect in summer,
  • especially skin-friendly (lowest allergic potential among all textile fibers)
  • Sustainable climate and soil friendly:
  • Cultivation in crop rotation on the field (prerequisite for growth),
  • No nitrogen fertilization, since flax is the only crop that does not tolerate nitrogen.
  • biodegradable
